AN UNEXPECTED LOW - COVERAGE c ( 2 x 2 ) PHASE

چکیده

We describe a latticegas model of adsorption on a square substrate in which an adsorbed p(2 X 2) phase disorders through an intermediate ~(2 x 2) phase as the coverage is lowered from l/4 of a monolayer. The occurrence of the low coverage ~(2 X 2) phase can be understood in terms of a relatively small interfacial free energy between pairs of the four types of ordered domains in the ~(2x2) phase. The diffraction features of this phase are indistinguishable from those of standard ~(2 x 2) phases.

The effect of Fe-coverage on the structure, morphology and magnetic properties of α-FeSi2 nanoislands.

Self-assembled α-FeSi(2) nanoislands were formed using solid-phase epitaxy of low (~1.2 ML) and high (~21 ML) Fe coverages onto vicinal Si(111) surfaces followed by thermal annealing. At a resulting low Fe-covered Si(111) surface, we observed in situ, by real-time scanning tunneling microscopy and surface electron diffraction, the entire sequence of Fe-silicide formation and transformation from...

Coverage-dependent adsorption sites in the K/Ru(OOOl} system: a low-energy electron-distraction analysis

The two ordered phases p(2 X 2) at a coverage 6’ = 0.25 and ifi X fi)R30” at 6 = 0.33 of potassium adsorbed on Ru(O~l) were analyzed by use of low-energy electron-diffraction (LEED). In the (A x fiJR30” phase, the K atoms occupy threefold hcp sites, while in the p(2 x 2) phase the fee site is favoured. In both phases, the K hard-sphere radii are nearly the same and close to the covalent Pauling...

Oxygen adsorption onto Ru (10 ¯ 10) results in the formation of two ordered overlayers, i. e. a c(2×4)-2O and a (2×1)pg-2O phase, which were analyzed by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and density functional theory (DFT) calculation. In addition, the vibrational properties of these overlayers were studied by high-resolution electron loss spectroscopy. In both phases, oxygen occupies the ...

An in situ powder diffraction study of the structural mixed-phase of YBa2Cu3O6+x at 200 and 300C

In this study, the YBa2Cu3O6+x samples at temperatures 200 and 300°C, as the value of x ( the oxygen content in 0the basal plane)  increased under nearly thermodynamical equilibrium condition, the structure changed from the well- known tetragonal (T) to a mixed-phase (T+OII) region (orthorhombicII phase is a superstructure). This mixed-phase region suggests a first order T/OII phase transition ...

Unexpected Spin-Crossover and a Low-Pressure Phase Change in an Iron(II)/Dipyrazolylpyridine Complex Exhibiting a High-Spin Jahn-Teller Distortion.

The synthesis of 4-methyl-2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (L) and four salts of [FeL2]X2 (X(-) = BF4(-), 1; X(-) = ClO4(-), 2; X(-) = PF6(-), 3; X(-) = CF3SO3(-), 4) are reported. Powder samples of 1 and 2 both exhibit abrupt, hysteretic spin-state transitions on cooling, with T1/2↓ = 204 and T1/2↑ = 209 K (1), and T1/2↓ = 175 and T1/2↑ = 193 K (2). The 18 K thermal hysteresis loop for 2 is unusua...
